How does a young band get Recognized?

we're just a garage band type thing. we have little concerts and people say were really good but i dont know how to get recognized by people from across the us.

1. they have battle of the bands and stuff...
2. see if your local radio can play... alot of my friends that have been in bands (and still are) were like tight with someone from our local radio station hot 995; and got them to play every now and then u'd most likely start out local playing at like jaxx and battle of the bands then maybe to a roadtrip...send some songs to places thruout the u.s. (do some research) and if they like u ask them if u could play anytime soon good luck
3. You save up every dime you all can lay your hands on. That's your tour money. You play every gig you can get, even if you barely break even. You give away your music online, legally, but not all of it. Give away several good songs, and sell the CD containing all of them--but make it cheap. You play for free locally, even when it's inconvenient. You're always there at every fundraising or charity event. You print up T-shirts, buttons, stickers, and such, and sell them for only slightly more than they cost you to make. The name of the game is being heard, and being excellent every time you're heard, no matter what obstacles stand in the way, from faulty equipment to personality clashes. (Both are a sure thing.)
